Diamond Cut
A Diamond Cut is a style or design guide used when shaping a diamond for polishing such as the Brilliant Cut. Cut does not refer to shape (pear, oval), but the symmetry, proportioning and polish of a diamond. The cut of a diamond greatly impacts diamond brilliance, this means if the cut is bad, it will be less luminous. A good cut is essential to a diamond's beauty, because even a diamond with outstanding color and clarity will not display the sparkle that diamonds are famous for if its components don't interact with light as they should. Diamond shapes are available in different shapes and cuts, we are taking few of exclusive cuts.
Round Cut Diamonds
Diamonds have many cut for shaping. But most popular and liked by people is round diamond, which takes center stage in the classic engagement ring – a round, solitaire diamond set either in yellow gold or platinum. For almost 100 years, diamond cutters have been using advanced theories of light behavior and precise mathematical calculations to optimize the fire and brilliance in a round diamond. Shapes other than round are called fancy shapes. There are many different rounds shinning diamond cuts from the Ideal cut diamond – which has 58 facets to the patented, 66-facet Leo Diamond cut.
Cushion Cut Diamonds
The Cushion Cut diamond is a unique and antique style of cut. It is popularly known and referred to as a "pillow cut"; the cushion cut has an open culet (the bottom of the diamond) and a rectangular to square shape with rounded corners. The beauty of a cushion cut is the deepness of the diamond. In the past most quality cushion cut diamonds were found only on the traditional and very old market, today cutters are once again cutting these stones. For a cushion-cut diamond that is square, look for length-to-width ratios between 1 and 1.05. If you prefer more of a rectangular shape, look for length-to-width ratios greater than 1.15.
Princess Cut Diamonds
Princess cut diamonds are possibly the most popular of the fancy shaped diamonds. Princess cut diamonds are relatively new with a shape that is rectangle, almost square, but with a modified brilliant cut arrangement of facets instead of a step cut. Most square or rectangular cuts just don't live up to the round brilliant for shine and twinkle, but princess cut diamonds are designed for getting maximum brilliance from a square cut.The square princess cut diamond is usually slightly cheaper than round brilliant cut diamonds of the same carat weight because it retains about 80% of the rough diamond, as opposed to the round brilliant which retains only about 50% of the rough. The ability to retain more crystal weight makes this shape popular amongst diamond cutters.
Heart Shaped Cut Diamonds
Heart shaped cut diamonds most liked by couple or romantic couple. It gives quixotic feeling. These heart shaped diamonds look extremely beautiful and gives unique look. The Heart shaped diamonds are basically a pear-shaped diamond with a gap at the top. Heart shaped diamonds are sometimes considered romantic, but they can be difficult to cut. The skill of the cutter greatly determines the beauty of heart shaped diamonds. The heart shape is a brilliant cut which typically contains 59 facets but that can be modified so that the number of pavilion main facets may be 6, 7, or 8.
Emerald Cut Diamonds
Emerald cut diamonds have a rectangular shape with cut corners. What makes this shape different is its pavilion, which is cut with rectangular facets to create a unique optical appearance. It is known as a step cut because its broad, flat planes resemble steps on a staircase. Inclusions and inferior color are more prominent and well defined in emerald cut diamonds, so pay close attention to clarity and color grading. If you'd prefer an emerald cut with a squared outline, look for an Asscher-cut diamond. To find the shape of emerald you want, look for the length-to-width ratio in our interactive diamond search and on each diamond's detail page. The length-to-width ratio will determine the diamond's outline, or what it will look like when viewed from the top.
