How to Buy a Diamond
Step 1
Now let us consider the 4 C's. They are: Cut, Clarity, Color, and Carat. As an expert advice before thinking about 4 C’s, basic shape of the diamond is more important and unavoidable factor to buy a Diamond. The most familiar is the round diamond, but examples of other shapes are: emerald, princess, oval, marquise, and pear.
Step 2
First you think about Cut. Some gemologists believe cut the most important characteristic of the diamond, because a good cut determines the diamond's brightness and vividness. The cut must not be too deep, or too shallow. If it is too shallow, light is lost out of the bottom of the diamond. If it is too deep, light is lost out of the sides. A honest company will sell you a diamond that is the right cut.
Step 3
The 3rd most important consideration is the Clarity of the diamond. Some diamonds have inclusions, small trace raw material or scratches. These inclusions detract from the diamond's value. The most valuable diamonds are flawless, but these are very classy, exclusive, and very rare. Internally flawless diamonds are available, but they too are quiet rare. It isn't value your while to buy an included diamond. Better to settle on a smaller, less included stone.
Step 4
The next feature, quality, point to consider is color. The most attractive diamonds have the least color, unless, or course; you have a marvelously-colored rare diamond. The less color, the higher the value, any small color difference can affect the value significantly. Most of us use the range of near-colorless to more of a yellow-brown coloration, designated by letters of the alphabet ranging from D-Z. The D's are nearly colorless.
Step 5
Finally a most important considerable factor is, Carat Weight of the Diamond. Diamonds are weighed on electronic microbalances that weigh to five decimal places. The higher the carat weight, the larger the stone. When all other factors are considered, and we have a good cut, fine clarity, as clear color as we can find, the size of the diamond must be considered. An Internally Flawless, excellent cut, D or G color diamond of half a carat is more valuable than an Included, more yellow colored, badly cut diamond of a whole carat.
